EMILDAI at GIG-ARTS 2025: Exploring Digital Sovereignty

Last week, members of the EMILDAI team participated in the 9th edition of the GIG-ARTS Conference at the University of Salerno, Italy. With this year’s theme, “The Rise of Digital Sovereignty: Ambiguities and Challenges,” the conference brought together leading experts in Internet governance and digital policy from across Europe and beyond.

Our programme was proudly represented by Dr. Edoardo Celeste, Alba Perez Victorio, and Victor Henriquez Diaz. Dr. Celeste chaired one of the keynote sessions, and all three presented their joint research on “EU Digital Sovereigntism and the Risks of Strategic Autonomy.” Their work contributed to ongoing debates about the role of the European Union in shaping a digitally sovereign future while navigating its geopolitical implications.

The GIG-ARTS Conference continues to serve as a vital forum for academic exchange on the governance of digital technologies. We’re proud to see our EMILDAI team engaging with the wider research community and contributing valuable insights to key policy conversations.

Stay tuned for more updates on our students and staff making an impact around the globe!
