The Cross-Border Data Protection Network cordially invites you to attend its first hybrid conference. The event will discuss the recent announcement of the UK government to adopt a new data protection model in the UK.
The event is organised in partnership with the DCU Brexit Institute, the DCU Law and Tech Research Cluster and the ADAPT Research Centre.
Each day will consist of two panels each where distinguished speakers from leading universities will give presentations on issues such as digital sovereignty, data protection, surveillance and AI regulation.
Thursday April 7th, 3-6pm Dublin time
Dr Karen Mc Cullagh (East Anglia), Dr Henry Pearce (Portsmouth), and Dr Edina Harbinja (Aston) will discuss in the first panel their analysis of the proposed ‘new UK data protection model‘. The panel will be chaired by Dr Edoardo Celeste, the DCU Law and Tech Research Cluster Coordinator. Dr Maria Grazia Porcedda (Trinity College Dublin) will act as a discussant.
Dr Roisin A Costello (DCU) and Dr Edoardo Celeste (DCU) will be part of the second panel which discuss’s the topic of ‘Data Sovereignty Tensions’. The panel will be chaired by Prof Edgar Morgenroth, Head of the DCU School of Enterprise, Innovation and Economy. Assoc Prof Eoin O’Dell (Trinity College Dublin) will act as a discussant.
Friday April 8th, 9.30-12.30 Dublin time
The first panel of the second day will be led by professor Federico Fabbrini, Director of the DCU Brexit Institute, and will include by Dr Christine Andreeva (Prague) and Dr Allison M Holmes (Kent). The topic of this panel is ‘Law enforcement and the delicate equilibrium of the UK adequacy decision‘. Prof Christian Kaunert from the DCU School of Law and Government will act as a discussant.
The final panel will present on the issue of ‘Artificial intelligence and cross-border cooperation challenges post-Brexit‘. Professor Lilian Mitrou (Aegean-Greece), Dr Napoleon Xanthoulis (Southampton) and Dr Peter Hustinx (UK Information Commissioner’s Office) will be part of this panel chaired by Dr Roisin Costello. Dr Edina Harbinja will act as a discussant.
